Ongoing Research
This PRIVATE area is referenced only in the link
on the Research Home page. It contains data that will be updated as
this work evolves. Its purpose is to provide a convenient way to share raw data from
ongoing work without having to update and email large data files. It also provides an independent backup for the data on my
personal computer.
Use the public pages on the web site to access necessary background information.
The raw details of all fabrics/netting are also available in the ACCESS file
Fabrics and are reproduced in
EXCEL in the file
FabricMaster. I keep these
files reasonably up to date.
| A short summary is provided in a
WORD file for each experiment. The EXCEL file
contains the detailed raw information for all species and is easy to interpret.
The ultimate point of reference for all raw data is an ACCESS database (Canada nzi.mdb).
This is my personal compendium of trapping work done since 1999 and is not
public. Only older data have been made publicly available.
|
| To produce species summaries for each experiment,
the data for each logical experiment are first exported through an ACCESS query
that collates several data entry tables.
This information is sent to an EXCEL template that can be revised to accommodate
each experimental design. The EXCEL
file contains various scratch worksheets and a simple macro to calculate log(X+1) transformed data.
The various templates provide flexible pivot tables for creating data summaries and graphs,
given basic knowledge of EXCEL.
|
| The transformed catches from EXCEL are exported to
SYSTAT to run ANOVAs for statistical inference. These are provided as raw output in a RTF file (Rich
Text Format).
The MSE (Mean Square Error) values from the ANOVA tables are then entered into
each EXCEL worksheet by taxa; sample sizes and degrees of freedom are entered
into a common worksheet. The EXCEL worksheets are set up to calculate all
necessary statistics, including confidence intervals for
the Response Ratios for each taxon.
The EXCEL file also contains a worksheet to compile response
ratios for collation with other work.
